"Everyone Else Does It"

"Everyone else does it," What is meant by this phrase? I feel that phrase is commonly used in a way I would describe as peer pressure. Nowadays that phrase is used mainly by people that are trying to get others to do something they don't always want to do (peer pressure). A time that I can remember that I have been told or heard it be said is when I was in Mexico. When I was there one year I would always over heard people at the plaza or at parties telling others to smoke or take some other type of drug. I have not only heard that once but a couple of times and here too not just in Mexico. Not many people realize that when they use that phrase they are using it in a way that really pressures others and can leave them no choice but to do it, even though it can a really awful idea.

  1. It is a form of peer pressure but everyone has the urge to try new things that is why they eventually give in. Your conscious knows the right from wrong. You also won't do it if you are smart enough to do these awful ideas.

  2. Blanca, the descriptions you give sure are peer pressure and you are right that the phrase "everyone else is doing it" does occur at times like that. Your age group is especially bombarded by this phrase and so people do things that they know they shouldn't. Juan's comment about conscience is correct, but the strong desire to "fit in" for some your age may override the "right thing". Making solid decisions because you are a strong person is not always easy so it is good to surround yourself with friends that won't put you in that situation. Sometimes that is easier said than done.

  3. I agree with you blanca. The phrase "everyone else does it" does sink in into peer pressure. Only a few may follow and a few may back down.

  5. I agree with you a lot of people use that phrase to peer pressure other or to fit in with other to be accepted. In results to the phrase people are to do more stupid things.

  6. I like the way you put in the words on "everyone else does it", I feel like people are afraid to be themselves and just blend in with others. People need to be themselves because those are the best people out there!

  7. Many people do use that phrase for the wrong reasons and then later continue those poor bad habits or regret them. I never knew you went to mexico either how was it? and is it very hot there?

  9. I agree with you Blanca, everyone uses that line, even I used that line plenty of times no doubt, why not it's a good excuse. Honestly it's been a long long time since I did. Well since everyone else did this assignment I might as well do it too.
